OUR POND NEEDS A SERIOUS MAKEOVER!! iTS SLIMY STRING ALGAE IS CHOKING OUR FILTER CONSTANTLY. OUR POOR FISH NEED A HEALTHIER ENVIRONMENT. EXOTIC AQUATICS WILL YOU COME TO THE RESCUE?!
Hello! We have had so much fun with our pond, but what a challenge to keep it nice looking!
You can't beat the serenity of hearing a waterfall. Sitting in the hot tub early in the morning watching the birds take a bath, the hummingbirds just love it, and the dragonflies, and it's absolutely wonderful! One day I saw about 20 birds all over the pond, it was so great. They left before I could snap a picture. We even had a Western Tanager visit; I got a picture of that one!
Everyone who comes over is drawn to it. We love to entertain and the pond is such and important part in creating a wonderful place for everyone to come and enjoy life. Whether we are just hanging out or having a blow out, the pond is a source of true pleasure! It's funny how you can see stress leave someone's body just by being by the pond. It's really cool.
Another reason that we wanted a pond is that we wanted to create a natural setting for wildlife habitat. A pond or water source is a must. It provides so much with so little care, if done right.
So that leads me to why we need a makeover. Well, we could use some help on doing it right. We built this pond ourselves and with little to no knowledge. From the beginning we have had problems. Now that ponds are everywhere and Exotic Aquatics is always the builder, we can see that we have a lot of imporvements to make. We have made many, many trips to Daryl's to talk to your staff and we have discovered that the design and the system is a major part of a happy and healthy pond.
We have bought lots of fish, only to be robbed by a mysterious creature. Eric once told us that it was good luck to have a black fish in the pond, we have tried four times and they have been taken within a week or two. It's sad because we name them. Here are just a few of the fish that we have had: Manny, Moe & Jack, Louie, Bruiser Pumpkin, B-2, Conan, Jaws, M C Hammer, P-Diddy, Fishy Fish, Clem (Kadiddlehopper) and many, many more! Bruiser, B-2, Louie and Moe are still alive. We would like them to stay a lot longer. Maybe with your help we can create a safer environment.
In the pictures you can see that along with aesthetics, there are funcional porblems. The pump and filter systems needs a serious update and needs to be hidden out of site, but easy to get to for cleaning. We do not have a skimmer. We have another pump for a smaller waterfall, but it plugs up so quickly we just shut it down. I'm sure there are more problems that I have no clue about.
At the beginning of the year we had Eric come out for a consultation. We were alerted to our problems and he threw in the idea of making it bigger. We had just started a remodel/addition project and my husband and I couldn't fathom the idea of another project! Nope the pond will have to wait.
We had designed the addition so that the pond is totally visible from the family room. During the project we both looked at each other and said "the pond needs to be bigger". With mixed feelings we put it on the list. Happy to make it more beautiful and easier to care for, but another project? Ughhhhh!
The pond has been neglected during the past 8 months. We have tried to keep up with the basics, but it looks really sad. The project is coming to an end and over budget, of course. To top it off, part of the remodel project is to build a pondless water feature in the front yard too!
The pond and the surrounding area will have to remain unfinished for awhile unless this story has charmed you!!
Sincerely,
Yuciapa, California
P.S. Here are a few words from the kids.
I don't like cleaning this pond! Please help me.

I always wanted a pond, but not one that is slimy and where fish disappear! It's really become quite upsetting and it's not as fun when you have to clean it all the time.
