I want to build a tiered glass block structure and use it as a waterfall. Since the area I want to use is relatively small, I would like to use a disappearing pondless waterfall system. Can this be done and how hard would it be to build.
Without knowing all of the details of your project it is hard for me to answer you questions with conviction.
Yes, it should be easy to build! I have never done anything like you are talking about but would be glad to offer some assistance in the design phase.
How tall is the glass block going to be and how wide do you want the waterfall to span? This will help me help you specify what size pump you will need for the project.
Also, how big of a foot print to you have alotted for the bottom of the glass block so that I may help you determine the best product for the water basin and pump chamber?
Happy Pondering..........
Hi Eric,
Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry that I didn't provide too much info in my first post. I live in Anaheim, CA and if you work in that area I would love to get with you in person.
The area I'm working in is in front of my house and is 4ft in depth and approx 16 feet in length. I was thinking about taking a 4 ft section on each end for plant material so that leaves me an area of 4ft by 8ft for the waterfall. I'm not sure how high to make it.... at least 24 inches - which is 3 blocks high but no more than 36 inches because my kitchen window will be above it.
As far as the details of the falls themselves... my thought was 7, 9, 11. The tallest part in the back would be 7 8-inch glass blocks wide with a return on each side. That would cascade down to the next level which would be 9 8-inch glass blocks wide also with a return on both side. The nthat would cascade down to the final level whicj would be 11 8-inch glass blocks wide with returns on both sides. Each level would be capped with white carrera marble. I would like to add some kind of lighting to the glass but I don't know what or where. For the 'pond' I was thinking black rock / pebbles of some kind or black recycled tire mulch.
I got a quote 2 or 3 years ago for that water feature and for others that I want to line my driveway with, but didn't really have the money to do it then and had other things to do on the house that were more important. And that is as far as I have gone.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Tim
Hey Tim,
Sorry for the slow reply. Reading over your information this sounds like an interesting project.
Because of the uniqueness of the project and to avoid a super lenghty exchange on the keyboard I suggest that you fax me (909.793.8517) or email a rough sketch. Send me a couple of photos, if possible, of the area this special waterscape will be installed so that I may better accomodate your requests.
Thanks,
