Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to keep the floating hyacynths and lettuce out of the skimmer box? This morning my pump was almost running dry due to the plants stuck in the net of the skimmer box!

Hey there,
You can corral the floating aquatic plants with a piece of bamboo or drift wood.
A cute way you can keep them corraled in smaller ponds is by using a HOOLA HOOP!
You can even anchor it to the bottom of the pond with a piece of fishing line and a rock. 
The draw back to this is that it doesn't look very natural to have a perfect circle of aquatic plants floating around in the pond like an island, but it is extremely effective at collecting eggs during times of breeding!
