[attachment=180][attachment=179][attachment=178]Hello Pond Diggers Team!

Looking for Suggestions on Building a waterfall and pond for this backyard for a friend of mine. I would love to use the existing railroad ties steps coming down for the waterfall, and dig out the pond pool in the grass area in front of it. I thought I would add dirt on top of the railroad ties and create two tiers and the last drop would go into the pool. I have some existing equipment that I would like to use, but need a bottom drain and flexable hose or schedule 40 pvc pipe. I have an external pump rated for 3000 gph, with a leaf basket. A pond buddy external filter box with media. I appreciate your feedback.

Pond Buddy,

Hello,

Well I noticed no one responded back to me about this pond building that I am doing. Well I am almost done ,except for waterfall foaming in the rocks. I am also waiting for a waterfall spillway for the top of waterfall. That black top rock will be removed so that it doesnt hide the waterfall spillway. I just wanted to get your advice on a designing aspect of the waterfall. I made dirt shelves under the liner, which only left small shelves. so I decided to use alot of slate. Please let me know if you think I should make any changes, or add anything to the waterfall.

Thanks, Your Pond Buddy

John Moya

John,

Hey sorry I missed your first reply. I was actually on vacation when that original post came in and somehow I overlooked it and didn't notice there was a new thread in that forum! Sad

At any rate it looks like you made some serious progress and are ready to wrap things up! Good for you!

My suggestion on the design of the waterfall is this. Somehow work the slate into a ONLY five pieces or levels. The very top level included. This will help give it a better balance look. Since you haven't foamed in the slate yet pull a couple pieces out and see how much better it will balance with less pieces.

First try 7 pieces of slate and then try 5. At this point you have 9 pieces of slate and I feel it is too many levels for that short of a distance and falls.

Now with the fewer pieces of slate you may find out you get too much splash and evaporation in the pond and then you will be forced to add more slate but I would cross that bridge if I had too.

Use lots of black waterfall foam on that waterfall to get the most out of your waterfall pump. What size pump are you using on this water feature?

Find balance through composition and use the numbers 3, 5, 7 when ever possible.

Good luck and send up completion photos when you are done.
