The Pond Digger
I wanted to toss out some interesting news.  Twice this last week I heard a tree frog OR a toad talking by my pond.  IN OCTOBER!!!!!???  What's up with that?

This is not typical behavior as far as I can recall.  I thought I would make a post on the incident so we would have the data here on the message board for future research

Posting notes like this can be interesting and very helpful.  Our first HERON WARNING report was posted here on the message board and then served as data for knowing when they would return next season.  Because of that we were able to send out informative emails and posts that helped many people save their fish.

I wonder how this Frog Talk info will benefit us in the future.  I will be making posts if I hear from them again this year.  I will make sure I make a post when I first hear from them in the spring and I encourage everyone else to make there reports here too.  Be sure to include temperatures, times and locations.

This Frog Talk moment was between the times of 12 noon and 5 pm.  The day time temperature was in the 80's and night time lows in the 50's. Location - Southern California

I also thought I had heard frogs in the last week. I went out to check and didn't hear anything, wondered if it was one of the many birds we have here. But I have heard them again several times. I am in Corona not far from you in Redlands... It also has been during the day not at night.

I heard that croaking again this week! November 4th around 2pm. Beautiful day here in Southern California. I wish I knew if it was a frog or a toad!

I have a reptile amphibian geek friend of mine I will track down in the next week or two to see if he can give us any insight.

This morning I woke up to the frog croaking again, Friday the 9th. I tried to find him but no luck. He has moved from the pond, he is up near the house in some flowers. Nice to know at least one of the frogs is still around. Jodi

My frog population has been going NUTS for most of the month of February! I almost feel guilty because I know spring is here for us in Southern California with the potential for one more cold snap, MAYBE! Big Grin

I have a friend in Wheaton, Illinois and anohter in Fairbaux, Minnesota and they are both FROZEN SOLID! They are beginning to think spring will never arrive! Rolleyes

I love Southern California.

We are on a count down to our new Pond Forum Format! Just a few more days! I already have a complete progression of photos from our Ponds For Schools Event that we did on Friday.
