Hi...I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I have enjoyed this site for some time now and decided to join. I love to hear how happy everyone is about having a pond. Same here!
Just for information, I have had a pond in my backyard for 2 years now. It is about 500 gallons and is an Aquascape design. It has a large waterfall with a nice stream going to a lower waterfall. It is only a couple of feet deep as we could not go any lower (for various reasons). We have learned a lot over the last 2 years, but still feel there is so much to learn. For example, we realized we really didn't have enough room for koi and so now have one butterfly koi and 7 goldfish. The koi was a holdout from last year that didn't get eaten and the goldfish are brand new. Anyway, we have always had 3/4 of the pond covered with water hyacinth and lettuce, but that is all gone now and I am trying to "branch out" and try new plants. I live in south Texas and so we are already in spring as far as I am concerned. We just had the pond cleaned out and it of course it is as clear as can be. We don't panic when algae sets in the hot months. That's nature to us. The water stays clear year round and we sometimes pull out string algae if we are in the mood. All in all, it makes us very happy. So thanks for listening and I look forward to being a member of your fine community.
